Favorite Quote:
"I will love the light for it shows me the way, yet I will endure the darkness because it shows me the stars." Og Mandio

A word, sentence, or paragraph can do tremendous things,

An ancient magic with extraordinary power,

With the ability to incinerate or reincarnate

To shift a sea of thoughts,

Or wane the most precise from their targets.

To light a spark in the dark, or smother one out.

Such danger, such unpredictability,

That it can even contradict itself.

There is so much beauty in such a thing,

for it tells its weaknesses and strengths outright.

It is only by how we humans use them that makes them good and evil.

So it is not wrong of me to say the phrase “The pen is mightier than the sword”,

is by all accounts incorrect.

As it’s not the blade that cuts down the mighty,

Nor the pen silences a soul,

Rather the words that come from within its context,

That strike the human psyche the hardest.

The author's comments:

This piece of poetry is designed to make the reader think. Read the poem, then look back at the rest of this note. If this is difficult to understand, don't worry as you are not the only one. Many of my teachers as well as my peers have questioned me on why I made this. See words in my opinion have no meaning if there definitions are not agreed upon by everyone. If words were like that, then theoretically you can have a sour word be a sweet one to someone else, so what is said and the context of it is ruined. Words themselves are just that, words. It is when we apply them to the world to they change. So my question to the audience is this: Do you agree with my statement, or do you think I am, for a lack of a better term, a nutcase. Please post your answer to the question, as well as any other comments and feedback. Enjoy.
