We are Human beings

We grow and change

Day by day

A constant change

Day by day

Every look

in the mirror

And it never gets

Any clearer

Regardless

We are Human beings

Its evolution

Day by Day

And yet

We never find a solution

To this little box

A tiny square

Four by four

And never there

A little jail cell

Of our own

With a little window

To only be shown

A reflection in the distance

And every day

We move and change

A new jail cell

To entertain

The same little box

With four different walls

All filled with check marks

To tell them all

A list of rules

Of standards

Of expectations

“A wide array,”

They say

With an exclamation,

“Choose what you want

But you must follow the

Expectations.”

“Follow the examples,

You’ll know what to do

You’ve seen them and heard them in every single room.

There’s nothing to be afraid of

Just follow the books and screens and magazines.”

You can grow and change

But only in a box

Go as high as you want

“Reach for success.”

“The sky’s the limit.”

But never forget

As high as you go

There’s always a list

And no matter what you do

You can only ever be

The words on that list

The adjectives on that list

And if it's all you ever know

Then you can never really know

There’s a whole other world of words waiting

For us

And infinite number of possibilities that you

Yes you

Get to choose from

And we are no longer trapped

In our little boxes

In our little jail cell

We no longer have to be

What the books and screens and magazines

Tell us we are

We no longer have a list

Of things to check

Only a world a adjectives

Only a key to the lock

Only an infinity of ways

To describe ourselves

And only in the beginning

And only in the middle

And only in the end

Will we ever be able to describe ourselves,

As everything and nothing and something

All at once

A beautiful sea of us

A beautiful sea of you

A beautiful sea of me

A beautiful sea of individuals

Because

We are human beings
