Alarmclocky
’Twas sunup, and the bright sun’s rays
Did sneak and slither through the shades:
All silent were the morning hours,
As the nighttime breath slowly fades.
“Beware the Alarmclock, young one!
The cries that shriek, the claws that tick!
Beware the sixth of morn, and shun
The abhorred Marimba tone!”
She took her pink sleep mask in hand;
Long time the high-pitched wail she dread—
So rested she under blankets, three,
And lounged a while in bed.
And, as in peaceful dreams she lay,
The Alarmclock, with a howl of rage,
Came piercing through the quiet room,
And thundered as it came!
One, two! One, two! And through and through
The listless girl readied for attack.
And to diffuse, she hit the snooze
And went collapsing back.
“And hast thou slain the Alarmclock?
Come in my embrace, you sleepy soul!
O glorious day! Sleep! Stay!”
The bed summoned in its warmth.
’Twas sunup, and the bright sun’s rays
Did sneak and slither through the shades:
All silent were the morning hours,
As the nighttime breath slowly fades.
