"There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed."

Everyone's staring at a painting
Hanging on the wall
Across from
Her

We're trying to forget
Where we are
We're trying to forget
Why we're here

The room is silent
Except for her struggled breathing
And the silent weight
Of all our hearts heaving

We're brought to a place
Made for saying goodbyes

But none of us expected to say it this time

We're sitting here in the ICU
The doctors are telling us
There's nothing more
They can do

Saturday comes
And we're all crowded around
Her bed
So many stories of love
Left unsaid

And as we lean on each other
And look at her for what might be
The last time
We open our mouths
To celebrate Her life

Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday wish there were more
We could spend with you

Happy Birthday to
A mother
A lover
A daughter

Happy Birthday to
A sister
An aunt
A cousin
A fighter
A survivor

No one expected the fight
To win this time

So when Wednesday comes
We walk in the door
And She's in a pink vase on the alter
Grandma goes over
And puts her on the shelf
Next to her daddy

We all look at that box
And wonder how this all fits
We look at each other
To try and make sense of it

Why did you have to go
When there was so much more
For you to know

But take peace in knowing that
Your girls will never be alone
They've got a huge family
That will be there for them
No matter what.
