Shadow Girl
Pushed to the side
Out of the way
I'm in the shadows
You're on the stage
Longing to be noticed
Appreciated too
Instead of the girl
Who's acknowledgments are few
Overlooked so often
It's become what I expect
But that doesn't stop the tears from coming
All I want is some respect
How come no one notices
The girl on the side
With all her painful memories
And all the tears she's cried
But I swear I'll make it
Someday upon that stage
Out there in the limelight
Broken free from my cage
Still that will be a long, hard climb
From my familiar corner
But patience and determination go a long, long way
I won't be just a mourner
And though we've always read about
Princesses and wishes
Perhaps someday the world will see
The other side of the story
