The Last Reach
The waves crash around me,
I can't breathe for much longer.
I feel like I'm drowning,
not getting any stronger.
I reach up one more time,
though I know there's no chance.
I gasp for air,
then take a second glance.
A hand reaches out,
it holds onto me.
I don't want to let go,
I just want to see.
The face of my rescuer
is merely a blur.
Is it someone I know?
Will I ever be sure?
I try to get closer,
I need to see,
just one glimpse of this man
that has reached out to me.
Finally, air,
I reach the top.
And as soon as I get there,
my heart seems to stop.
For the face that I see
is no stranger at all.
It's the man that I love
that answered the call.
He reached out to me
in my time of need,
when I didn't deserve it
in word or in deed.
But He's always been there
in thick and in thin,
reaching through stormy waters
to help me again.
I will never forget
that day by the sand,
when in my darkest time,
You grabbed my hand.
