The Wasp
The day was new, the sun was bright,
A summer day, a summer’s blight.
The people stood there, by the pool,
As I prepared myself for the duel.
The one human below, with short curly hair,
So engrossed in the pool, too cool to care.
Pointing my stinger, I aimed for the arm,
I broke soft flesh but it wasn’t much harm.
But this person was terrified of one little sting,
She screamed and she cried, and all that sort of thing.
When I was spent, and flew far away,
I didn’t see it, I’m sorry to say.
It was a flip-flop, one you may know,
With a force that caused me to fall down and slow.
The ground was no problem, but the flip-flip came down.
It was there that it happened, just there on the ground.
It was there on the sidewalk the summer had fried,
That I did something quite unusual,
Quite unusual indeed,
I died.
