The Life of a Tree
The sweet, green buds fill the branches
Wound too tight to unfurl
Then they begin to creep open,
A newborn opens its eyes.
The leaves are broad and fuller now
Glowing like an emerald
Slowly they start to catch fire
A child discovers
The blazing tree is now mature
Just beginning to age
Then it withers out of its skin
Reaching the peak of life
It’s proudly showing its bare limbs
Not as strong as before
It sits alone in the cold, and
Waits again to be born.
