The Statue of Liberty
The ships approach
From across the sea.
Coming to this land,
The home of the free.
The passengers are immigrants
Looking for a dream,
And from a great distance
They see a torch gleam.
As they draw closer
They see the great lady stand.
With her torch above her
The Declaration of Independence in hand.
The statue there stands
Both day and night.
Holding her book
And her golden light.
She stands facing outward
To greet her new guests.
As they soon will be
Just like the rest.
She welcomes the people
With their hopeful hearts.
Simply reassuring them
That they can make new starts.
