Why You Did What it is You Did
Why you did what it is you did
And you'll sit a while just to see,
if he really is who he claims to be,
And in his eyes you see a guarantee,
that makes you wonder, that makes you dream.
And everybody will wonder why you did what it is you did.
And then time will pass,
And you'll both get attached,
And your ex will laugh and call him trash,
Even though all your friends say he's quite the catch.
And everybody will wonder why you did what it is you did.
And love will come as years soon pass,
and you'll be glad you never moved too fast,
and that all those fights are in the past.
And even the ones that said you wouldn't last
Have to wonder why you did what it is you did.
And then the time will come when you'll both grow,
and by then every single person will know,
that wherever he went that you would you would go,
But everybody will still wonder why you sunk so low,
And why you did what it is you did.
And then he will take you back to that sacred tree,
Where everyday it would be just you and he,
And he will get down upon bended knee,
and smile and still no one would see,
Why you did what it is you did.
And he will be your groom and you his bride,
And you'll cry more than you have ever cried,
And you can't dance but you'll still try,
and no one then will know its all a lie,
But now they wonder why you did what it is you did.
And the years will turn and you'll have a baby girl,
and she'll become your whole wide world,
And she'll have his eyes and her hair, your curls,
and she'll sing and dance and spin and twirl,
But even she will wonder why you did what it is you did.
And she'll grow up, and you will too,
Soon gossip girl will be the new blues clues,
And sometimes you just won't know what to do,
but he will be right there with you the whole way through,
And everyone will wonder why you did what it is you did.
And you'll tell him you love him more than you can ever prove,
And he will smile and say I love you too,
And you'll hold each other the whole night through,
And he'll never know that your untrue.
And everyone will wonder why you did what it is you did.
And then one night your friends will call,
They'll say come on over we'll hit the mall,
and then tonight we will go out and have a ball,
And of course you'll go cause they are your friends, after all,
But even they will wonder why you did what it is you did.
And then you will shop in every store,
neglecting sales like they were chores,
Maxing out credit cards like your divorced,
And even though you pick him up a few things of course,
Everyone will still wonder why you did what it is you did.
And later that night you'll get dresed up at thirty four,
And hit the bars just like before,
And you'll keep drinking 'till your stomach gets sore,
And though your friends tell you to stop you'll beg for more,
And everyone there will wonder why you did what it is you did.
So you'll drink some more even though it tastes vile,
And down one last drink till your mouth tastes like bile.
And then you'll see that guy you haven't seen in a while,
And he's cuter than you remember so you shoot him a smile,
But even he will wonder why you did what it is you did.
A couple minutes will pass and he'll sit down,
And he'll smile at you without making a sound,
And you are much to drunk to realize where this night is bound,
But it really doesn't matter now,
Even though everyone will wonder why you did what it is you did.
And sooner or later you'll begin to talk,
And pretty soon you forget the clock,
And he'll get cuter and cuter until you stop,
Forgetting all about the man whose world your about to rock,
And how you'll make him wonder why you did what it is you did.
So pretty soon, you'll leave that bar,
And you'll jump right into his car,
Your much to drunk and home's too far,
Maybe he will know where it is you are,
As he wonders why you did what it is you did.
And then the rest of the night will remain a blur,
And you'll wake up in a strange bed without a shirt,
And then you'll realize what has just occurred,
And you'll whole body will start to hurt.
And everyone will wonder why you did what it is you did.
And you'll leave without a sound or a note,
And begin your long walk home,
And you'll start to cry and begin to moan,
And you'll realize its no fault but your own,
But everyone will wonder why you did what it is you did.
And then you'll stand upon your steps,
With your messed up make up in your stained dress,
And then you take a real deep breath,
Even as you wonder whether he will say no or yes,
As everyone wonders why you did what you did.
But now you realize what you have done,
What you've lost, what you've begun,
And realize words won't fix what you have spun,
And all you want to do is run,
Where nobody will wonder why you did what you did.
But you gather the courage and man right up,
And sit him down and shut him up,
And cry before you can start it up,
And tell him just how you messed up.
And he will wonder why you did what you did.
And he will yell and scream and curse,
The best man in the world, at his worst,
And he loves you he says but wants divorce,
And he says you were stupid of course,
And he will wonder why you did what you did.
And then he will tell you to remember the times,
The moments you laughed the ones you cried,
When her daughter was born and all their pride,
And when he asked you under that tree to be his bride.
And he will wonder why you did what it is you did.
And then he will list all the stuff you have made it through,
and all the times you didn't know what to do,
But he said i loved you too,
And thats all that really mattered to you.
And you will wonder why it is you did what you did.
And then he'll stop and stare and pace,
And you'll search for a clue in that beautiful face,
And you'll pray for another time and place,
While he looks at you in disgrace,
And wonders why you did what it is you did,
And then you'll think about just what you'll miss,
The songs you sang, your goodnight kiss,
Your happiness and eternal bliss,
That in an instant will cease to exist.
As he wonders why you did just what it is you did.
And then you'll sit down and he will let you know,
That his answer is a resounding no,
That you have embarrassed everyone and should probably go,
And so you walk through the door real slow,
As he wonders why you did what it is you did.
But before you leave you can't help but turn,
Towards the man whose trust took so long to earn,
And has always been your main concern,
But now an image in your mind is forever burned,
As he wonders why you did what it is you did.
And for the first time in your life you'll see him cry,
Not even when his own dad died,
But now he will wipe a tear from his eye,
And he will look up at you and ask you why.
And maybe now you will wonder why you did what it is you did.
