Black Lives Matter
It was an average day in late May
The pandemic had already taken lives away
Almost the whole world was shut down
Almost everyone was on lockdown
Meanwhile in the state of Minnesota
It was the same feeling as North and South Dakota
An ordinary man was walking down the street
George Perry Floyd was accused of trying to cheat
Floyd was Innocent and did not do anything wrong
He was just trying to stay strong
When a white police officer who had no heart
Kneeled on his kneck, a life had to depart
Thousands watched from their homes the horrifying news
Of all police officers they’d now of hatred accuse
And the heartless president didn’t even care
Many people on their bedside said a prayer
On their Twitters and their Instagram share
People posted nothing more than a black square
And citizens young and old took to the streets
And held up signs and marched for justice and peace
And because the president was a horrible man
People were more disgusted than they possibly can
And the man next door to me to the right
Was also hateful within eyesight
So here, we are almost two years later
And some people haven’t gotten greater
So all we can hope for is peace and justice
We wish no matter the color of or skin, great people could trust us

I wrote this about the Black Lives Matter movement in mid-2020. I am from a small town in the midwest and I am horrified at how racist people can be.
