Isn't always easy
Twelve years of my life.
That’s how long I’ve been in school.
Sometimes it only seemed like strife,
But I pushed through.
But in year ten,
That’s when the world went crazy,
And school started getting bad again.
The world shut down,
Everything was online.
The kids started struggling.
Nothing really seemed fine.
Teachers overloading with homework,
This was new to all of us.
Kids started getting burnt out.
We all wanted to start a fuss,
But we knew it wouldn’t help.
It wasn’t fair to the seniors before me,
They didn’t get to see the stage.
They all sat and started to plea.
They waited their whole life for this.
The proms that we all wanted,
And the cool homecomings we didn’t get,
The ideas of them keep us haunted.
The seniors this year may graduate,
If the cases don’t go too high.
But it isn’t by any great fate
That COVID has seemed to ruin everything.
The normal that people had,
We all just want it back.
This doesn’t seem as rad,
Like the times I got explained to me in my ten years of school beforehand
My name is Alex and I'm a senior high school student. I'm new to poetry and submitting my work.
