If It Were Up to Me
If it were up to me,
you and I would both be free.
If it were up to me,
you and I would be
sitting in a car that neither of us have,
listening to the songs that we both know,
looking and smiling at each other as we drive down the dark road
If it were up to me,
you and I woud both know that that's how it was meant to be
If it were up to me,
you would no longer be in pain.
If it were up to me,
you'd be the reason my tears no longer fall like rain
If it were up to me,
we'd be laying in bed, fingers intertwined, laughing at jokes only we'd understand
If it were up to me,
there wouldn't be another casualty
Because when I think of me and you,
I feel like everything has been tried and true
When I think of you and me,
I think of how young and dumb we can be
Staring at the ceiling, finding who we are, promising to never break each other's hearts
If it were up to me, that's the way it would be
