The Silence
The Silence ended its lengthy speech and all it’d imparted
It stood, ready to join the others already departed
Few words remained to be spoken
The remaining time bereft
The towers once climbing high lay broken
The crosses on Anzio are all that’s left
Rusted bullets their greatest token
From conflicts long since started
Only memories of what they slaved
Only monuments for all they braved
Every word a sacred hallow
The Silence addressed the blind
With a voice resonating hollow
The Silence did remind
“You too, soon shall follow
To the end that can’t be staved.”
