A Long Journey
As the rain poured out of my eyes,
I remember thinking I wish I could just die.
Everyone, all their smiling faces tried
to tell me “you’re beautiful,” every time.
I couldn’t believe, and I couldn’t accept my worthlessness.
It was all a big, huge mess
They couldn’t see what I saw,
It was like looking in a mirror and witnessing a different reflection.
The sun was not shining; these were the cloudiest of days.
Mom held me and said, “Listen, nobody is perfect, God made you and loves you just the way you are.”
My thoughts and the media told me differently,
I had to appear better than the rest.
This mountain was way too rigid to climb.
But with the help of God, my boyfriend, and my mom I knew I had to hike, and get up that hill.
The first miles were the hardest,
I never thought I’d make it to the top.
The wind blew and the heat came,
but the journey was worth all the pain,
my heart is better now,
even though my appearance is the same.
