Three Ring Life

My life is a three-ring circus
My name is on the marquee
I put on a show, that’s what I do best
Give the people what they want to see.

My lips dark red, my cheeks light pink
My eyes outlined in kohl
As I step onstage, I quietly think
I am perfect for the role.

I do the dance I know so well
After all it’s a daily routine
Even though I’ll never tell
It’s a hollow scene.

These hoops through which I leap
Get smaller everyday
These stairs are much too steep,
I cannot get away.

The white hot spotlight envelopes me
I glitter, but I am not gold.
I breathe in and out…One, two, three
One step and I have them sold.

I look out with my confident stare
And I’m sure there are no traces
Of any worry present there
In front of expectant faces.

This is how I used to live... before I got too tired and gave up.

I didn't make it through the hoops one day..... and have been spotlight-less ever since!

I actually think this is easier, tho. :)

Great poem. Luv it.
