"To these the past hath its phantoms,
More real than solid earth;
And to these death does not mean decay,
But only another birth"
- Isabella Banks

I am a bird in flight,
A broken wing and a desert night.
I storm pillars and I break fire
Apart in my hands,
I build empires.

I am a rose in a mall,
The one bright thing you see, that’s all.
I am a bee among the surface
Of a sidewalk
But I still have purpose.

I am a road that you walk on
I might not seem likely to sulk on
A September day,
But that fine array
makes me bland and here I stand
For you to drive on,

Oh come on,
I’m a poet and you know it
Just a loser and I’ll show it
With this participation trophy
Here’s another strophe
About what I am
Try to define me
But you’ll be lost
Try to catch me and you’ll be cross.

Among the sea I am crying
But you can’t see
Cause I am an island
Holding on to the waves and crashing
Like a bush to the wind I’m gasping

I am a laugh.
Dragging myself out to the trash,
Where I belong among other treasures
Like broken charms that are gone forever.

I am who I am and you can’t blame me
For being what I was born to be.
Desperately awake and honestly exhausted
Welcome to my life
A life that is haunted
By the embers and the ghosts
Of my bleeding host
A God so much greater
A God and a creator
A God who holds me still when I want to run,
A God who will help me finish what I have just begun.
