close your eyes;
you never see anything quite the same the second time.
you look at a fun house mirror,
yet you're the only one who sees what's really here.
I see you on the corner and I know your face;
I have to step twice as much to keep up with your skipping pace.
you throw your head back and sing;
you really don't care about anything.
you know the wool of a black sheep is just as warm
and that there really is no harm
in letting all love in.
everything is copper within,
and you can't even kill to make it gold.
so just hold
in your hand the sidewalk chalk,
and draw the world without all the talk
that brings us down,
all the pain that forces frowns
on our perfect smiles,
all the cages that trap us while
we yearn to be free;
you draw the world the way you think it should be.
every person you touch,
oh you'll never know how much
you change their soul,
you make their heart full.
how did you learn to walk on the sky?
your spirit is like dye
spreading through the population as if it were water.
you say to always totter
between yesterday and tomorrow.
never borrow
the regret from what has been;
just focus on what good has happened since then.
never fear
the future - it's too near.
no one can evade
what destiny soon will have laid
in stone.
you say no one is ever alone
in their struggle to find their own way;
all we can do is take it day by day.
you say as long as you have a choice
you will raise your voice,
you will sing
cause you don't care who's listening.
facing your grave
has only made you brave;
while others live in fear,
you shed no tears.
though you're faint of heart,
you'd never start
to let yourself feel weak.
even when times are bleak,
you've never been happier before.
though you were never given much you never ask for more.
you dance till your feet ache in pain
cause you know that the rain
only comes now and again.
no matter where you've been,
and even though not everything is all right,
you see the light.
we'll all pull through;
there's nothing we can't do.
