My heart jumps
My foot thumps
Back to the comfortable floor
My eyes peek nervously from the fear that will pour
Over some stupid thought
I’m going to fall, my brain caught
And entrapped these words inside
I glance frightendly at the small pillars that seemingly rise
Upward; slowly clearing a way to fall
My legs shake and tremble; a certain call
Will set me in a startled spiral of leaping
At night as I was sleeping
I thought of tumbling
Down the steps; my screams rumbling
This childish fear
Needs to stop; will this seventeen year old girl hear?
I take a deep breath
And tread down one step at a time; the fear of crippling death
Slowly disappeared like stains
Washed by rain
My hands press
Against the wall; the fear growing less and less
I reach the end of the stairs, opening the door
Of the hotel room; feeling bravery soar
It wasn’t so bad
Climbing down steps; I did it and I’m glad

I have this strange phobia of climbing down narrow steps
