The Calm
The calm of an idle morning, pleasantly lethargic
under the dawning sun
The calm of individual snowflakes drifting through
a gray sky, outside my bedroom window on Christmas
The calm of frigid winter nights, where our gazes
remain fixated on starry kaleidoscope skies
The calm of the moments just before sunrise
when the grass is still covered in dew,
and a cup of coffee is warming my palms
The calm of seeing flowers' first bloom in spring,
after a light drizzle
when everything feels new and alive
The calm of driving through endless sun-drenched fields,
the silent progression towards
an untouchable horizon
The calm of a single note filtering through my ears,
soothing my soul
with a melodic medley
The calm of an affable breeze greeting my fingertips
as I drive down
A rustic country road
The calm of a summer's wind
brushing across my face,
and through my hair
The calm of catching fireflies
imprisoning and liberating
on a warm August evening
A child's game
The calm before the tempest
when the blood in your ears
stops rushing
Everything becomes clear
as the world holds its breath.
