If I could paint
I'd paint an old friend
One we all know
From the noisy New York City
To the mystic oriental

If I could paint
I'd paint joy
Of romantic dreams
And a young girl's wishes

If I could paint
I'd paint a guide
A strong marker
That leads to home

If I could paint
I'd paint a mystery
Of shadows
Illuminated in the night

If I could paint
I'd paint freedom
The open air
And the wide world

If I could paint
I'd paint loneliness
Making life seem so small
And everything else so large

If I could paint
I'd paint hope
A glowing orb in
The midnight's sky

I'd paint swirls of color
And splashes of dark
And on my canvas would emerge
The image of the moon.

I was inspired for this piece by a full moon last December. It got me thinking about the connections it represents (the moon can be viewed from anywhere in the world) and all of the emotions we associate with it.
