Stored Inconvenience
From the start they are marked by number
Boxes shaded by a dull color spectrum
Bar codes placed to define destiny
Filled to the brim with predetermined substance
Longing to be set free
On shelves, they are marked by number
In aisles grouped by product
Breads, medicines, and toys ready for consumers
Where their expiration dates determine shelf life
Yet all long to be set free
In life, we are marked by number
By the dull hues across our box-shaped bodies
Years from our birth like bar codes
Filled to the brim with the same old blood
But consumers can only see the pretty packaging
In neighborhoods grouped by categories
In every ethnicity, shape, and brand
We are predefined only by our shelf life
But all long to be set free
