Matchmaker
I never experienced a real love.
The kind that makes hearts sing.
True love that poets write of,
That pulls on every string.
And so I try, with all my might
To fill my empty void
By helping others win the fight
Before they are destroyed.
My newest subjects are familiar faces,
Yet neither knows one’s name.
They glance and smile in acquainted places.
I can no longer watch these games.
The boy enters the elevator,
A box clutched in his hands.
I stop the doors from closing,
And the girl meets my demands.
They eye each other from over the box,
Then both look to the ground.
I know they’re meant to be together,
But neither makes a sound.
I knock the package from his hands,
It crashes to the floor.
A poem landing right side up,
Titled “to the one that I adore.”
She warily picks up the poem and,
One look is all it takes.
It’s everything she’s ever dreamed,
Her heart no longer aches.
They reach the bottom and both step off,
Walking out into the sun.
I’ve filled part of my empty void,
My work for now, is done.
