Roads leading nowhere
Tires lose their keep
Slide across the sidewalk
And dive into the deep

Old metal dinosaurs
Claw the once paved dirt
Sacrificing our time
For something that won't work

Losing precious moments
With those we cherish dear
And dreaming of the moment
When we can all be near

If 'life is like a highway'
Then life will shed a tear
Because this one is broken
And closed until next year.

The quote in the last line is from a famous song, I think its a cover by Rascal Flatts. The rest is original. It is about a real event, but in fanciful terms and mini-events.

My goodness! I can't believe this hasn't been noticed before. It's a great poem, and I like the way you rhyme.
