Small Blue Eyes
I remember when you came into this world
Round and round the doctors twirled
The whole room frantically swirled
Till out came you; a round, white pearl
The room’s buzz faded with your cries
Collectively began a chorus of sighs
They began to clip off your strings and ties
As you slowly opened your small blue eyes
You were a precious gem; shiny and new
Innocent, were your little eyes of blue
I sat silently- calm and aloof
Until the man in white handed me you
I stared at your little feet and hands
Your hair sprouting in small strands
Around your wrist was a light pink band
But even in my arms, I still couldn’t understand
A tiny body, wrapped up in sheets
Is the little sister I’ve been dying to meet?
I slowly examined you from your head to your feet
And kissed your forehead, soft and sweet
I began to wonder what life would be
Now that I had you, and you had me
Visions of us were all I could see
Laughing and shouting joyfully
I then was struck by the thought of darkness
Of all the wicked and the heartless
Of cluttered minds making messes
Polluting the world with the hate they possess
I thought of the judgment you’re bound to face
Of media’s stencil you’re supposed to trace
Treating you like a drawing meant to be erased
Taking away all the things you were to embrace
I sat for a moment in despair
Rubbing between my fingers, your little patch of hair
Hopelessly at you I stared
Knowing the world would not care as I cared
And in that moment you began to cry
I held you close and promised I’d try
To put all of the world in disguise
For you, little one, and your small blue eyes
