the plants grow towards him
grandma woke up one day
and didn’t remember her name
grandpa remembered it for her
but one day he just didn’t wake up
so now she screams all night long
but not for grandpa for he is a stranger
I don’t know if I feel sorry for her or envy the way
her confusion excuses the heartbreak which should lace her veins
grandma makes me remember
the boy who watered my soul
he is so enlightening
even the plants grow towards him
If I wake up one day and can’t remember my name
I’d probably still remember his
and even when he leaves my life
I’ll speak his name more often than my own
I’ll write it on bathroom stalls and down my arm
people will know his name like their own
people will see his name like they see the stars
and when I forget it the world will remember him for me
