My Softball Story
It is the intensity. It is the adrenaline rush. It is the speed of the game. It is softball.
Softball has been a very important thing to me. It is a game that you either like it, or you do not. No if, ands, or buts. You have to put forth your full efforts for every play.
I started playing softball at four years old, which is when I was able sign up for tee ball. This was a really big step for my four year old mind. It was the first time for me to be a part a team. Being on a team meant everything to me at such a young age, but it means even more to me now. I really knew softball was my passion when I first stepped out onto the field for my first ever practice.
I’ve faced many obsticles over the years. I started with simply hitting a ball off the top of a tee, to having my coach toss the ball to me. To having a pitching machine and than an actual pitcher throwing the ball at me 50 mph.
Over the years I’ve had to learn many different positions but we all have that one position that we call ours. The one position that your best at and love doing it every minute of the game. The one that your willing to fight for. Mine position is pitching.
I started pitching in 4th grade when I was 10 years old. It’s a mixture of dedication and hard work. I love the feeling of standing on the mound staring down the batter. Giving the body language and eye contact making sure that we both know I’m going to strike her out. Making the batter feel intimidated. I love learning knew pitches because it’s the best feeling in the world to trick a talented batter. They’re expecting a 50mph fastball when you throw a 25mph drop ball when they swing and miss. Then the amazing feeling of the batter leaving the plate after I struck her out and then the next one walking up being scared because she knows I’m going to strike her out too. It’s the best part of the game for me.
I am now 15 years old and a freshman in high school playing on varsity and I am loving every minute of it. Softball will never get old to me. It will always be a deep passion of mine, just like it was when I first took the field when I was four years old.
