Failure To Operate

The tears fell from your eyes like raindrops from the sky.
My lips cracked like the winding sidewalk we knew so well.
I wish I could tell you why, I wish I knew how to lie.
And our pride sinks while our hearts still swell.

And things always seem so short right before they end.
We were the meaning I failed to comprehend.
A book without pages, a race that cannot be ran.
We were a failed attempt at love, over before we began.

The words are caught in my throat, fighting to break free.
I try to hold back, but the emotion consumes me.
Lyrical monstrosities bursting out in all directions
Burning all bridges, amputating this infection

The tears fell from your eyes like raindrops from the sky.
Your lips quivered with our final goodbye.
This is the departure that we know so well.
Our hearts sank while our hopes slowly fell.
