This Land Was Your Land and Now it's My Land
This land was your land
And now it's my land,
From California to the New York Islands,
From the redwood forests to the Gulf Stream waters,
This land was made just for me.
As I was driving my Lamborghini,
I saw above me, smog from factories,
I saw below, those trapped in poverty --
Oh, thank God for manifest destiny.
This land was your land
And now it's my land,
Thanks to Capitalism and greed,
Thanks to big wigs like Carnegie,
This land was made just for me.
As I was counting all of my money
I saw above me, my inflated ego,
I saw below me, my servant Diego,
An immigrant worker I pay in pennies.
This land was your land
And now it's my land
Because I'm obscenely wealthy and white;
Because of my privileges, I'm always right
And I say: everything belongs to me.
I buy many things that have neither value
Nor worth, nor purpose,
Nor meaning of any kind
Because I can do whatever I want to.
This land was your land
And now it's my land
Since the Trail of Tears, all through the years,
Since the dawn of big industry
This land has belonged to men like me.
You may ask why I'm such a bad guy
And I will tell you: it's because I
Cheat, lie, and screw over everyone
Who tries to live a decent life.
This land was your land
And now it's my land,
If you still don't quite understand,
Just keep in mind the golden rule:
Obey me, although I'm a tool.
This land was your land
And now it's my land --
That's simply how it was meant to be.
Yes, everything that you see,
All belongs to me.
