That Boy
That boy smiles, and I smile back without thinking.
That boy winks, and I catch myself winking.
That boy starts sneezing, and I start teasing.
In me, that boy always brings out the best…
But he seems to have a certain natural zest.
That boy cries, and I feel like crying.
When he’s done, that boy sighs, and right along with him I hear myself sighing.
The girl that boy thought he loved just broke his heart.
Seeing him like this tears me apart.
Can’t he know how much I love him?
That boy doesn’t even know, I realize, as my heart begins to dim.
Before I knew it that boy was leaning towards me for a kiss.
My heart picks up but we’re not so good at this and we miss.
That boy laughs and I start myself laughing.
That boy tells me how much he’s always cared for me and I hear myself spilling my guts.
The next day at school that boy smiles, and I smile back without thinking.
That boy winks, and I catch myself winking.
