Pennies
She held a penny in her fist
a timely treasure that I’d missed
It gleamed with some eager intent,
trilled the lucky tenor of one cent.
I had a need for that single sum,
but my penny problems had just begun;
for I found a penny of my own.
With copper radiance, it shone.
Find a penny, pick it up;
all day long you’ll have good luck
As soon as that penny was mine
It’s wishful emanation did decline.
People want what they can not have
and this misfortune is immensely sad.
For when you pick a penny up,
you’ll quickly find it holds no luck.
