for the love of softball
I’ve always loved baseball. I liked to watch it on TV, but I never played before. So this summer I decided to start going to my schools softball practice. I instantly fell in love with the sport. My first day at practice was easy, I caught on to the game quickly. I felt like I had been playing forever. We had practice every day, it’s weird but softball practice became something I looked forward to everyday. Even when I was the only person at practice, I stayed and worked hard on my game.
I had obstacles to by during this time. When I first started I didn’t throw very well. I eventually got better as I practiced more. I even got hit by the ball a few times, which really hurt, but I still kept playing because it was something I love. When I first started catching I was afraid to get hit with the ball, “You’ll never catch a frog, if you’re
worried about getting your shorts wet”. I repeated that mantra in my head and I eventually started to rely on my glove to protect me from the ball.
One day the softball coach told me that when the seasons started I could play fist or third baseman. He’s even asked me to think about being a pitcher or a catcher because those are the players that get scholarships to colleges out of state.
Softball has taught me lots of things this summer, its taught me that playing a sports involves lots of team work and if the team doesn’t work together as one we will never win.
