Search (A Villanelle)

I search into the corners of my mind
for truth, for peace, for wisdom somewhere deep,
but shadowed clarity is all I find.

This consciousness is blank, but I’m not blind.
To look for something I forgot to keep,
I search into the corners of my mind.

Escaping thoughts are not helpful or kind;
I want to catch them, bright as solid proof,
but shadowed clarity is all I find.

I want to climb into my head and look;
the journey inward to myself is steep.
I search into the corners of my mind.

A portrait with the color left behind,
I could have showed my own demented truth,
but shadowed clarity is all I find.

I fear my strengths and doubts are intertwined
and maybe my true self will stay asleep.
I search into the corners of my mind,
but shadowed clarity is all I find.
