the shadow of the stone
we built our home in the shadows of the stone
with three hands we’ve carved to inspect
together we will lie in the bed that we’ve sewn
black maroon vines, its leaves twisting to dethrone
intertwining through the bodies seeking for the courage to neglect
you’re building our home in the shadows of the stone
running against the hourglass yet beaten by the unknown
the vines are catching up; ready and eager to infect
I make you lie in the bed that I’ve sewn
fear of the fire but afraid to postpone
and still the hands hold steady despite my defect
I’ve built our home in the shadows of the stone
the vines reject my sacrifice of blood and yours of bone
red has caught us; tying us down, unmasked, unchecked
we cling to the bed that we’ve sewn
you shine so brightly: my keystone
but it’s time to pay up, the gates stand looming, erect
our home always will stay in the shadows of the stone
now, together, we lie in the bed that we’ve sewn
