Basketball Sonnet
I slacked off the entire offseason,
because cross country had consumed my life.
So to make the team I had no reason,
for my bball game was stabbed by a knife.
Tryouts had come much sooner than I thought.
I had one week to get my skills ready,
which meant making the team would take a lot,
turning my schoolwork into a petty.
1st cuts were simple as I had made it,
2nd cuts were tougher but I’m still on.
Now final cuts were just up in a bit.
18 athletes, 12 spots, 6 would be gone.
Coach O took a strong interest in my D,
that is why he was so pleased to pick me!
