Utterly Alone
From birds to bee sounds. A critical ear was cocked for a moment.
Evening advanced on the dark evergreen bushes toward the island.
Red and yellow sprays folded against the light to confirm him, utterly alone.
His shoulders leaned against the trees that stood still.
The returning sounds of the island made his moves so furtive that just the time glancing at the square rocks made his breath fainter.
Just for a moment, his feelings were bright, even with the crying gulls behind him.
It was just the jungle, the island, and him.
Utterly alone.
