Bark scarred
With old remains
Of summer flings
And couples
With a penknife.
Leaves flutter
Nervous in the breeze
Flitting from side to side
Proud of green garments
Ostentatious.
Limbs smoothed
Down by the sandpaper
Of sneakers
Climbed on by daring
Kids
Tree stands
Tall and still
Oblivious to the damage,
The toll of love
On it's exterior.
