Not Them, Not Anymore
I used to
Wanna be those teens
Who could go anywhere and do
What they want of their own means
I used to wanna be the girl
Who wasn’t afraid to walk away from her
Parents and unfurl
From herself and from being an actor
I used to wanna be
Able to leave anytime with my friends
To do what I want and see
Who I am and have boyfriends
But not anymore
Not them, not anymore
Sitting here
In the van
With my parents, brother, and sister
The area I scan
There are the teens
Ones that I wanna be like
That can do what they want of their own means
But I am so unlike
Them and then the song comes on
And I can smell the rain
Train sings Drops of Jupiter on the radio
And I’m glad I’m me
And not them
I’m good with my family
I don’t need to run
I’m good with my siblings and mommy and daddy
It’s fun
I don’t need to be someone else
Not them
Not anymore
Just me

I was at Sonic when this happened and I didn't have paper, just a pen, si I scrawled out a few stanzas on my arms to remember this. My mom was wicked mad but it wore off.
