The Wait Is Over
gravel crunches and hearts beat
for now
an endless snake of dark dirty green
winds around a path
of destruction
men ride to their victory
riding to death
across an ocean
women pray
while the children play in the dust
women waiting
for phone calls
children waiting for bedtime stories
Daddys crouch in a tan ocean
husbands wait
inside flapping army green caves
men march
with purpose long ago forgotten
gravel crunches and tires squeal
as inside beats silence
across an ocean
a phone rings
and the waiting is over
