White Girls Don't Got No Rhythm
It don't matter how damn hard I pray
Listenin' to Leadbelly
Won't turn me into a
Twelve string-pickin'
Brothel-servicin'
Moonshine-imbibin'
Bluesman.
And straight wishin'
Won't ever transform me
From a bloodless yeller belly
Wishy-washy as all get out
Into somethin' worth lendin' an ear to.
Well I reckon
The chain gang life
Wouldn't treat me so good
Heck
I've never gone without
A single day in my life.
But feelin' the blues
Just ain't the same
Iffin you've never known
Hardship
Heartbreak
Hatred
Hope deferred.
Don't you see,
How can a girl possibly have anythin' to say
When she don't got no material?
Hear me lord
How I hunger
For inspiration/provocation/a tortured soul
Somethin'-
Anythin'-
Worth fightin' for.
Suburban life
Sure-
It's comfortable.
But oh how I'd give it all away
For just one taste
Of those swingin' muddy waters.
