Holding onto Shadows
Fresh cut flowers and fresh cut hearts—
leaves every room for contrary starts.
Trusting through ashes of previous dreams
is hard as I knew, but it always redeems
until words have failed and confusion won’t blow
over the reasons that fail to show.
But I silence my counter, for you to come through
all that is torn, from all that was glued
to practical thinking, that has never made lore,
but dreaming of an openness behind a shut door
only leaves searching for verses unsaid
—unzipped mouths and unzipped dread.
