Uncle Carmine
Kind father, caring friend,
Loving brother, lending hand,
Adoring pal, greatest love,
Amazing Husband, and wonderful son,
You were everything and all to us,
A role model and someone we’d trust,
Now that you’re gone, it’s hard to smile,
But you’re still here somehow, please stay for a while.
I remember your smile, I remember your face,
Your beautiful heart, and your humorous ways,
The way you laughed, and the way you cried,
The feelings I had on that September night.
Your grey old whiskers, and your big, strong arms,
Your tender hands, and your calming heart,
Your great big hugs, and your twinkly eyes,
What happened to you, on that dark, cold night.
I remember one afternoon, on the Jersey beach,
With all our cousins, your nephews and nieces,
Playing in the water ‘til it was dark outside,
And throwing bread to the seagulls in the nighttime sky.
It’s like our hands tied together, all looking up to you,
Trying to remember for the last time, what that place called home feels like,
Trying to make it work, but dang, these times are hard,
and we try to feel the same, to smile, in your holy name,
Knowing just what to say, things we haven’t said for a while,
We try to smile, but the tears won’t hold back,
and as hard as we try, they flow like floods,
and even after all these years, they’re here for the while, all the while.
Kind father, caring friend,
Loving brother, healing mend,
Adoring pal, greatest love,
Amazing Husband, and wonderful son,
You were everything and all to us,
A role model and someone we’d trust,
Now that you’re gone, it’s hard to smile,
But you’re still here somehow, please stay for a while,
For a while, all the while, all the while.
