Math
She sits there, staring out the window
Thoughts blowing in and out
Like leaves, the wind taking them away,
Leaving her alone, like everything else.
On paper, there’s an equation
Numbers mingling with letters
Like voices, drifting down the hall
Tangled and unheard, lost in a sea of white.
The figures slide along the graphed lines
Switching places, hidden meanings
Like clouds, stealing the sunlight
Blinding what blinds; impossible.
She crumbles the paper, it falls.
It sits on the tile with a mocking smile
Like broken glass, incomplete but living
Until she kicks it under her desk.
