Lost Friend
When I remember my Friend,
I think of someone I do not really know,
A Mere Memory.
I know him as a Friend,
A good person to be around.
I know you might not remember as I do.
I knew you, but I never really knew you
Until later, and then you became my best friend.
I know you as an athlete,
Something I am not,
Something you are better than I am.
I know you as a friend because
Even though you were better than me, you
Were still my friend.
“You were my best friend.”
If you didn’t know,
That’s fine because you were a good friend.
“Why did you leave?”
I know you didn’t choose to,
But I know I wish you hadn’t.
