I feel invisible in your gaze.
You'd care enough to make the change,
If you cared enough to see through my transparency.
You locked me in a cage.
I cannot escape, you cannot open,
For you do not know I'm there.
I'm here, waiting for you to
Open your heart to me.
I'll be here forever,
Waiting.

You got me there. But I still think it still has the same implication. Jim (the gentlemen caller) didn't know what kind of mess he left behind at the Wingfield home. Completely oblivious

that sounds like an interesting story, but the line is "youd care enough to make the change", meaning the person is sweet and friendly but oblivious to the pain they are causing.

There are certain lines that speak to one of the Major characters. Laura Wingfield. Who is really sensitive to her environment, both physically and mentally. "You'd care enough to make me change' sort of cries out to when Laura gets her first gentlemen caller. When the family anticipates this once in a lifetime marriage. He spills the beans that he is already engaged to another woman. "I'm here, waiting for you to, Open your heart to me" Is practically what Laura says (although she never does, she has a breakdown, if I remember correctly) "I'll be here forever, Waiting." Is sort of the after taste of his leaving Laura. His departure leaves both the mother (Amanda) and the daughter (Laura) 'waiting' forever for him, or the next gentlemen caller. Which is highly unlikely due to Laura's extra sensitivity to new, or different people.

Sounds reminiscent of The Glass Menagerie
