An Insomniac's Night
A whispering hand folds to close my eyes,
Beads of sweat tense my body, as if a surprise.
But I know this endless game.
I resist every night as I hear my name.
Quick beats resonate as my heart lies,
it's silvery song gives away its disguise.
Why do I not just proclaim,
That oh endlessly, sleep, I have lost you to the flames?
The clock waves by a hundred goodbyes,
as each second in time dies.
My journey is still long, the hours the same.
Alone, my darkness hiding strength which never came.
I wait until the glorious light comes to claim
--seeing the black fall away in shame.
Hours later, it's again a reprise,
as I try to sleep a thousand times.
