Happy Tenth Birthday
A second grade classroom
Silently practicing
Our newly found knowledge
A cursive ‘t’
Two times two
Then the TV blinks on
A flash
Of fire and smoke
And the screen goes
Black
As if nothing had been showing
Only seconds before
We were little
We were seven
Still living in our
Little bubble
Of ignorant bliss
I’m still glad
I was so young
News like that
Today
Would hit me
Hard
And so everyday continues
With that hovering
In the back
Of my mind
Though I never come
To understand it
Fully
Ignorance
Is
Bliss
Oh, and Karina,
Happy tenth birthday
May next year’s be happier
