The Widow of the South

The broken remains
Of the valiant men
Lie beneath her feet;
The husbands, fathers,
Sons and lovers
Of thousands.

Day after day, she
Meticulously plants,
And replants, and
Weeds, wishing only to
Do her part, in this
War 40 years over.
