Scattered across the ocean floor

Coin eyes and bloated faces

Lay the corpses of the drowned

Different ages different races

Spongy, puffy, rotted skin

Lying in a watery grave

Dragged into the murky depths

Pulled down by foamy waves.

The mermaids come to collect their souls

For who else is there to take them?

Those haunted waters block the way

Between they and He who made them.

Those wretched souls, never again

Will see either sun nor ground

Say a prayer for these tortured souls

The spirits of the drowned.

Thank you. :) It was actually inspired by a running story line I have about a little girl who drowned, which in turn is inspired by the poem A Drowned Maiden's Hair. (which I highly recommend, though I do not recall who wrote it).
