He Lied
She glances at his final resting place,
The tears roll gently down her face.
She's trying not to sob out loud
She's not quite ready to face the crowd.
Her family's here and so is his,
His fellow soldiers, their family friends.
Now it's time to say goodbye.
She'll dry her face and close her eyes.
She knows now she'll be alone.
She never should have let him go.
He lied when he said he was coming home.
